mfpmp.exe high cpu usage fix

Mfpmp.exe or Media Foundation Protected Pipeline is a Windows Vista process file that is used to prevent the hacking of DRM or Digital Rights Management when digital media is played on your computer. DRM makes it possible to protect and secure delivery of digital content by subscription or request when media is being played back.
Primarily, mfpmp.exe has been developed to replace Microsoft DirectShow, Windows Media SDK, DirectX Media Objects (DMOs, ACM and video for Windows (VfW) and other legacy multimedia APIs. This replacement will happen step-by-step. Until then, both Media Foundation and Directshow technology will co-exist. You must note that mfmpmp.exe does not support Windows XP and older operating systems.
In Windows Vista, the program focuses on high-definition content, audio and video playback, and content protection.
File Information
By default, the file is located in C:\Windows\System32. The default size of the file on Windows Vista is 24,576 bytes. Its version is 11.0.6000.6324 (vista_rtm.061101-2205).
Mfmpm.exe Problems
One of the common problems you may face is high CPU usage when you play audio files in Windows Media Player 11. You may encounter this problem even on computers with more than the required specifications for Windows Vista to run without lag issues. The main complaint usually is that mfpmp.exe not only affects the audio but also slows down your PC a lot.  At times, you may even face problems with volume controls.
Resolution Methods
Listed below are various solutions offered to repair this problem. The solutions offered range from editing the registry to changing music players.
Let’s try and break these down.
Solution 1: Temporarily End the Mfpmp.exe Process
To stop CPU hogging temporarily, open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del. On the Processes tab and then end the mfpmp.exe process.
This is just a stop gap solution as the mfpmp.exe file will run again when music is played. Also, stopping the mfpmp.exe process will stop your audio from playing.
Solution 2: Make Changes to the Windows Registry
Warning: Making a backup of your registry is strongly recommended as registry edits are irreversible without one.
  1. Run regedit to open the Registry Editor window.
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR
    E\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\NodeCLSIDs\{95037DA1-6ED9-4B27-8CFF-9AD3DFB0B2F2}.
  3. Change the AutoInsert value from 1 to 0.
Solution 3: Download codec

Download an alternate codec or codec package that will enable you to decode and play your media file.
Solution 4: Update your drivers
High CPU usage problems may occur if your drivers are outdated. So, you may try to update them to resolve the issue. If you find it difficult and time-consuming to check for update for each driver on your computer, you may use a reliable driver scanner tool, such as Driver Finder to do the job for you.
Solution 5: Disable Media Enhancements
  1. Go to b and then on to Control Panel.
  2. Select Sound.
  3. Highlight Speakers/Headphones.
  4. Click on Properties and select the Enhancements tab.
  5. Select the Disable All Enhancements checkbox.
  6. Click OK and close all open windows.
Solution 6: Use an Alternate Media Player
If nothing works, then it is best that you stop using Windows Media Player and look for an alternate media player. This should solve your application error related problems.
High CPU usage problems and other PC errors may occur if your PC is infected with malware. It is still best to run regular virus scans with an efficient tool, such as Anti-Virus Plus.  Using this software in conjunction with Spyware Cease’s anti-virus tool will increase your protection.
You can also avoid errors by running a regular scan with RegServe.  RegServe can fix problems within the Windows registry to prevent future errors as well as fix existing ones.
